Médecins du monde Japan:

Doctors of the world first came to Japan for an intervention following the big Kobe earthquake in 1995. MdM Japan was created in 1995, shortly thereafter.

Because an advance emergency relief plan is indispensible, MdM Japan drafted a Disaster Action Plan. The result of this work was that Japan’s official disaster prevention plan provided for a close network between administration, fire departments, transport systems and medical care, therefore eliminating the need for an NGO to provide additional relief activities. However, the seriousness of the disaster in March 2011 forced us to change our plan.

 Médecins du Monde calls for an end to the indiscriminate violence against civilians and strengthens its assistance activities in the Middle East

As the violence against civilians continues and the Joint Special Envoy of the UN and the Arab League is due to visit Damascus, Médecins du Monde is reinforcing its assistance activities in the Middle East in order to support medical personnel who are treating the wounded as well as people fleeing the conflict to neighbouring countries (Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey).

Σύμφωνα με τον Παγκόμιο Οργανισμό Υγείας, στις 28 υποσαχάριες χώρες της Αφρικής και της Μέσης Ανατολής, όπου και εφαρμόζεται η πρακτική του ακρωτηριασμού γυναικείων γεννητικών οργάνων (κλειτοριδεκτομή), 130 εκατομμύρια κοριτσιών και γυναικών έχουν πέσει θύματα αυτής της πρακτικής.

Το σχέδιο διάσωσης της Ελλάδας είναι ένα από τα μέσα αποφυγής της χρεωκοπίας και των επιπλέον μέτρων λιτότητας ώστε να μειωθεί το έλλειμμα, καθώς έχουν υποσχεθεί εκατοντάδες δισεκατομμύρια ευρώ. Εντούτοις αυτά τα μέτρα που στοχεύουν στη διάσωση του οικονομικού συστήματος, ξεχνάνε τις συνέπεις προς τους ανθρώπους, κυρίως προς τους πιο “αδύναμους”.

Ως απάντηση προς τις μετακινήσεις του πληθυσμού, οι ΓτΚ ξεκινούν μια επείγουσα ιατρική αποστολή για τους μετακινηθέντες πληθυσμούς στο εσωτερικό της χώρας και για τον απομονωμένο πληθυσμό στην περιοχή της Kidal. Αυτή η αποστολή πρόκειται να υποστηρίξει τις ήδη υπάρχουσες δομές υγείας.

Francois Hollande met this morning the organizations who fight against the ‘Exclusion’, one of which are Medicins du Monde.

MdM will continue its work for three years, overseeing a project promoting the rights of street children, including better access to healthcare.

Last week was the final battle for Yopougon - and full control of Abidjan. It was fought out block for block, street by street. Watching the elimination of unorganised militias in a densely populated area of over fifty square kilometres must have been a nightmare. While we were visiting some of the health centres in the worst hit areas, the tension of the recent events could almost be touched.
