Voluntary offer Abroad

The missions of MdM abroad are based mainly to the voluntary offer. The programs in which the volunteers participate abroad are divided to: the confrontation of Humanitarian Crisis , which have severe consequences to populations health , the Emergency Cases , as natural disasters and wars, Programs of Reconstruction of the countrie’s health systems after an urgent crisis and finally, Long-term ,Development programs.

The volunteers possess important posts in the life of the Organisation , not only during their mission but also when they return in Greece , participating to communication events and congresses abroad as eye- witnesses of what they have experienced. Also, they participate to meetings and assemblies in order to improve the programs.

 

MdM need the following professional categories for their programs abroad:

 

Medical Personnel

 

Doctors/ Medical Coordinators

In a mission of MdM doctors are engaged to a double role. On one hand, they undertake the medical care of the patients and on the other hand they have educational, administrative and coordinating duties. The administrative competences include the supervision and the education of the local sanitary staff , the planning and coordination of medical programs , the orders of medical material , the training of monthly references of medical activities of the program as well as the contacts of local sanitary authorities. Despite the fact that according to the missions the needs for concrete specialties are different two of the basic specialties are the surgeons and the anesthetists.

The surgeons are essential in the missions , mainly in belligerent and isolated areas , where populations lack of the access to health. Their duties concern in investigating their needs , realize educating the local personnel according to the given needs.

The anesthetists are essential in the missions, especially in belligerent and isolated areas , as they constitute an integral part of the surgery teams. For the MdM’s missions , it is necessary to be experienced relatively with anesthesiology in the sectors of Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Dorsal Anaesthesia.

 

Nurses
Nurses are occupied with primary healthcare . More concretely, they support the better organization of medical services or Medical Centers and they realize specializing programs concerning mass vaccinations and medical care of mother and children. Similar programs are realized in refugee camps , where MdM have organized their own medical structures providing their services. In general, nurses’ duties refer to the organization and coordination. Local staff realizes a program under the monitoring, the education and coordination of the Organisation’s nurses.

Nurses are charged with the follow-up and the education of local nursery staff , mainly in sterilization and disinfection methods, in management and distribution of medical and pharmaceutical stuff as well as in organization and coordination of vaccinations programs , when this is needed. In addition, they participate in the configuration of medical protocols to each country and they ensure their implementation of local nursing staff.

 

Technologists of Medical Laboratories

The technologists of medical laboratories undertake the coordinating and educating role in public health structures where MdM intervene or in Medical Centers , where the Organisation operates. The laboratory and local staff management is included to their main duties.

At the same time, the technologists are responsible for the order of needed material, the data collection and the qualitative control of laboratory medical tests.
