Haiti

The Doctors of the World Greece continue to develop their activities from January 2010 in Haiti for survivors of the devastating earthquake and while the needs and priorities change, basic medical services offered in the camps remain of paramount importance.

The group of Doctors of the World operates in Port au Prince and in particular the metropolitan industrial park Sonapi located in the south-west of the airport. To implement and support their medical intervention Doctors of the World created:

• A health center with 200 to 300 patients per day

• A field hospital with 15 big tents and each tent has 3 medical beds, a total of 45 medical beds. Patients are injured and postoperative patients transferred from regional hospitals and case referrals from the health center of Doctors of the World (eg, newborns, children dehydrated from gastroenteritis and other cases)

Doctors of the World have sent a total of 22 tonnes of medical supplies, which includes all the necessary medical supplies to treat 30,000 patients.

Apart from the Doctors of the World Greece, in Haiti are still 5 Representations of Doctors of the World from France, Canada, Portugal, Switzerland and Spain.

The objective of Doctors of the World is to continue the action for the coming months.

* Doctors of the World, in accordance with the principles and settled practice of the Organization, will deliver all the material to the population in hospitals and health centers of the earthquake stricken Haiti.
