Department of psychosocial support

Psychosocial Department of Medecins du Monde aims to correspond in the increasing need of psychological support of immigrants and other vulnerable social groups without access to public or private centers of mental health due to social and economic situations.

The department operates on a daily basis in the morning and 2 days in the afternoon on the opening hours of the Polyclinic of the Organisation. The role of this department is to appreciate the needs of each person and ,then , to introduce him to the program of short psychotherapy and social support.

The need to create an organized frame consists a basic aim of MdM .

This population includes people with overloading mental health system considering that they were victims of natural disasters and other painful conditions.Psychosocial Department offers several sessions with advisors, psychologists and social workers.

The team of Psychosocial Department includes volunteers psychologists , experienced in the advisory procedure , graduated students specialized in advisory psychotherapy and social workers. A direct objective is to look for psychologists or advisors with knowledge of the Arabic language or educated interpreters. People who take part in the program have to be sensitized and to understand the multiculturalism and its influence to the psychotherapeutic intervention.

The department provides 2 hours daily supervision for all the participants as well as the opportunity to organise presentations and participation to seminars and sessions.

 

Groups of Children

The groups of children consist a new frame of activities referring to the infant population of the Hostel of MdM with central point the psycho-pedagogic programs. This program includes two groups of children divided , according their age, who activate weekly and address to children living or lived to MdM’s Hostel with their families.

Aim of the program is the primary prevention of mental and “social” health and the integration of children to the new receiving frame.

The program consists of students, pedagogues and psychologists experienced and interested in children supervising for all participants.
