Program of MdM about the vulnerable group of drug users.
In the frame of this Program , they promote the secure use of substances and the reduction of harm , through the exchange of used syringes. Aim of this process is the protection of the users and the social environment.In addition, we realize medical control ,through medical tests to everyone who wants it, as well as the informing of all users about hepatitis, HIV virus and other transmittable diseases. Doctors and psychologists of the team offer primary health care and psychosocial consulting to persons who visit the medical unit and refer the medical cases to the responsible institutions and hospitals being on duty. Furthermore, very important is the program’s offer on issue of prevention and sensibilisation referring to matters of health and hygiene. The scientific team of the Program consists of volunteers doctors, nurses, psychologists and other mental health professionals , social scientists and other specialities.

Αγαπητοί μου φίλοι και συνάδελφοι, μετά την εκλογή του νέου Δ.Σ., κάτω από την τιμή και το βάρος της επιλογής μου ως πρόεδρος της οργάνωσης, νοιώθω την ανάγκη να απευθυνθώ σε σας που είστε η πεμπτουσία των Γιατρών του Κόσμου: τους εθελοντές. Η Ελλάδα είναι στο επίκεντρο της οικονομικής αλλά και της κοινωνικής κρίσης της Ευρώπης και οι πολίτες της βιώνουν πρωτόγνωρες καταστάσεις. Οι συνθήκες που δουλεύουμε είναι πια πολύ διαφορετικές. Οι άνθρωποι που μας στήριζαν οικονομικά, τώρα ζητούν την βοήθειά μας. Και από την άλλη οι απαιτήσεις για δράση είναι πια πολύ περισσότερες.
Μέσα σ' αυτό το διάστημα επαναπροσδιορίσαμε τους στόχους της οργάνωσης και τις αιχμές της δράσης μας:
Αυτοί οι στόχοι δεν μπορούν να πραγματοποιηθούν παρά μόνο με πολλή δουλειά, προγραμματισμό και έμπνευση. Έμπνευση που στηρίζεται σ αυτούς που εργάζονται στην οργάνωση και καταθέτουν ψυχή. Προσπάθεια που στηρίζεται στην ακούραστη προσφορά των εθελοντών. Γι αυτό οι εθελοντές μας φιλοδοξούμε να έχουν εκπαίδευση, ενημέρωση, να συμμετέχουν στις δράσεις της οργάνωσης με τις καλύτερες δυνατές προυποθέσεις, για την καλύτερη αξιοποίηση των ικανοτήτων και του χρόνου τους.
Σαν πρόεδρος της οργάνωσης οφείλω να βρίσκομαι κοντά στους ανθρώπους της, σε όλες τις δράσεις της, κοντά σ αυτούς που μας χρειάζονται και αυτός θα είναι ο δικός μου προσωπικός στόχος. ΚΑΛΗ ΔΥΝΑΜΗ

Streets of Athens is a program that MdM is implementing since 2000 with the aim of the reduction of harm , the provision of primary health care and the psychosocial consulting for drug users. The mobile medical unit of the program , with the team of volunteers is visiting on a weekly basis Omonoia square , which consists meeting point of drug addicts , and with the method of “streetwork” , they approach them in order to intervene into the direct problems they face due to the drugs use and to their living conditions. The need of such kind of intervention is really important as this population includes people who lack of support , living under precarious conditions , having malnutrition and decreasing access to Health care System.
