No one left alone this summer

Next to the boats that take us to our holiday destination, in every place where the “heart of the city beats”, in tourist destinations, in cities, in villages, in every place where we live or escape from the exhausting heatwave, another parallel reality unfolds.

While we are taking a break from our obligations, enjoying the relaxation of our holidays and collecting experiences and memories that will stay with us for a lifetime, people who do not have the choice to break away from their difficult everyday life are left behind.

Before you pack your suitcase and leave for your vacation, think about all the people you’re leaving behind. Think about all those who cannot enjoy the summer.

It is our elderly, it is the sick and those who need a stable supportive environment and companionship. They are our many fellow human beings without a way out or access to state welfare. Who live below the poverty line or even in housing insecurity. All those who need uninterrupted care, whose absence causes additional loneliness and more problems.

They are, at the same time, the urgent humanitarian crises. In war-torn regions that force thousands into a heavy daily life with little room for escape, but also the environmental disasters that we are increasingly confronted with their consequences.
