MdM Greece along with 100 other Civil Society Organizations, are calling on the Prime Minister, the President of the Hellenic Parliament, and Members of the Greek Parliament to take immediate action and exert political pressure to protect the civilian population in Palestine.
On the occasion of Greece’s Presidency of the United Nations Security Council, the organizations urge the Greek State to firmly support a permanent ceasefire, the unhindered and safe delivery of humanitarian aid, secure and protected access to medical care for the wounded and the sick, and the complete end to violence.
Palestine: Joint Appeal by 100 Civil Society Organizations
Honourable Prime Minister,
Honourable President and Members of the Hellenic Parliament,
We are witnessing, in real time, the unfolding of a situation aimed at eradicating Palestinian life in Gaza. The member states of the European Union and the United Nations must urgently exert their influence to ensure the unhindered provision of humanitarian aid to Gaza. Every day that passes strengthens complicity in the systematic eradication of a people subjected to ongoing blockade from all assistance that would allow them to survive.
The obstruction of humanitarian aid constitutes a blatant violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2720, which calls for the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian assistance to civilians. Claims that aid is being intercepted by Hamas remain unsubstantiated and in no way can justify such measures. The limited amount of humanitarian aid currently allowed into the Gaza Strip merely serves as a façade to suggest the siege has been lifted. Israel’s plan to instrumentalize humanitarian aid is a cynical response to the humanitarian crisis it has itself created.
Prior to October 2023, approximately 500 aid trucks entered Gaza daily, according to the UN. Today, only around 100 are allowed in each day, during a period of extreme crisis. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, all public hospitals in Northern Gaza are now out of service. At least 20 medical facilities in Gaza have been damaged or forced to partially or completely suspend operations in recent days due to the advance of Israeli ground forces, intensified aerial bombardments, and widespread evacuation orders.
As people remain in dire need of medical care and aid, the Israeli authorities must immediately end the deliberate blockade of Gaza and the systematic dismantling of its healthcare infrastructure — a strategy that supports the ongoing campaign of ethnic cleansing. Israel’s evacuation orders and military exclusion zones now encompass 70% of Gaza, forcing the population to move repeatedly from one area to another. No part of Gaza has been spared from attacks.
The depletion of fuel supplies severely hampers desalination and water distribution. The remaining health facilities — already inadequate in both number and capacity for the population — continue to come under attack and are rapidly running out of medicines and other essential supplies.
Civilians have nowhere safe to seek refuge; patients are effectively sentenced to death; the right to asylum is non-existent; family reunifications are nearly impossible; and medical exit permits are exceedingly rare.
Among the victims are medical and healthcare personnel, hospital workers, and humanitarian staff who are targeted and unprotected, losing their lives in deliberate attacks.
- A permanent and enduring ceasefire is established.
- The blockade preventing Palestinians from accessing humanitarian aid is lifted immediately.
- Israel removes the blockade to allow the unrestricted entry and distribution of humanitarian supplies, including medicines, medical equipment, food, fuel, and water.
- Security guarantees are provided to enable humanitarian teams to operate freely in delivering essential medical and humanitarian services.
- Violence and the forced displacement of Palestinians in the West Bank by Israeli authorities cease without delay.
- All restrictive measures hindering Palestinians’ access to essential services, including medical care, are rescinded.
- Safe and unimpeded access is ensured for individuals requiring medical care and humanitarian assistance, including patients and the wounded.
- Safe and unhindered access to fundamental supplies such as food, water, and healthcare facilities is guaranteed.
- Those wishing to leave must be able to do so safely, without jeopardizing their future right to return.
