Médecins du Monde received the award for their response to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. Mrs. Hara Tziouvaras, President of Médecins du Monde Greece, received the award from the MEP Mr. Kostas Arvanitis.

Afterwards a panel discussion on the European Union followed the ceremony, during which MdM-Greece members had the opportunity to stress the importance of supporting civil society.

Furthermore, Médecins du Monde Greece would like to thank the European Parliament Office in Greece for the honorary event.

European Citizen’s Prize

The European Parliament established the European Citizens’ Prize in 2008, in order to recognise initiatives by individuals or organisations that encourage mutual understanding and closer convergence between people in the EU, cross-border cooperation that builds a stronger European spirit and/or the values of the European Union and fundamental rights. In this contex, individuals, groups, associations or organisations can submit or propose projects for the European Citizenship Award. Projects may also be proposed by MEPs. This year 300 applications were received from which 30 winners were selected.

MDM-Greece action is linked to Article 1 (Human Dignity), Article 2 (Right to Life), Article 6 (Right to Freedom and Security), Article 21 (Non-discrimination), and Article 35 (Protection of Health) of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.
